Sep 05, 2011 (Nairobi Star/All Africa Global Media via COMTEX) -- Tana Delta residents and the County Council have appealed to the government to issue licences for all six ranches in the area so the Bedford biofuel energy company can start work on a multi-billion shillings project.

They said the project will boost development and reduce poverty in the area. Led by council Vice Chairman Hasan Omar Kortumo, the residents said they supported the project to be implemented on private leased land.

He said no one was opposed to the plan. Speaking in Garsen town yesterday, Kortumo said poverty in the region was high because the ranches had been underutilised.
